Matemateca summer course

[2024 Jan] Among the summer courses offered by the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME-USP) this year, Matemateca presents the course "3D Modeling with OpenSCad programming". The objective of the project is to disseminate 3D modeling among the public interested in mathematics or creating objects through 3D printing or machining. The course is taught in the EAD format and runs from January 22nd to February 2nd. For more information, check out this link.

Matemateca and King's College London collaboration at the Oxford Maths Festival

[2024 may]As a result of a partnership with King's College London, Matemateca attended the event Oxford Maths Festival 2024, at the days may 11th and 12th. There were made 10 items in Brazil, in collaboration with the professors David Kohan Marzagão and Josh Murphy, both from King’s College. The professors Eduardo Colli and Deborah Raphael, flew to England to attend the exhibition. The 10 pieces that were made are: Consensus; Königsberg with mobile bridges; Hamiltonian paths; Ramsey’s Theory; Chladni’s plates; Clumsy Wagon; 3x3x3 Tic Tac Toe; 4x4x4 Tic Tac Toe and Sandpiles, of which, Ramsey’s Theory and Consensus are new to the collection. Exemplars of the new items and new versions of old items were also added to the collection with support of the Program of Postgraduation in Applied Maths of IME-USP.

XI Mathematics Biennial

[2024 jul & aug] Matemateca attended at the XI Mathematics Biennial, promoted by the Brazilian Mathematics Society (SBM), from july 29th to august 2nd, with estimated public of 600 people. For more information, check the event's website

Creation of the AEX “Mediação da Matemateca” (Mediation of the Matemateca)

[2024 aug] From 2nd semester of 2024 onward, graduation students of USP may subscribe themselves to the Curricular Extension Activity (AEX) “Mediação na Matemateca” (Mediation at Matemateca), at which the students mediate the exhibitions of Matemateca during the semester, which are assembled on demand for primary education classes or even higher education, and eventually, other interested publics. The creation of this AEX had support from the Vice-Rectiorate of University Culture and Extension in its first offering

Visit of Federal Instiute of Mato Grosso do Sul - Aquidauana Campus

[2024 jul] On june 10th, 33 undergaduate students in mathematics from Mato Grosso do Sul (MS) state visited Matemateca

Visit of Elementary and High School Division (DIEFEM) – Municipal Education Office

[2024 oct] On october 2nd, 15 regional education directors of the São Paulo city hall administration, attended at an exhibition at IME-USP, with the goal of discuss ways to disseminate mathematics in education

Visit of Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) - Três Lagoas Campus

[2024 dec] On december 12th, undergraduate students in maths of the Federal Univesity of Mato grosso do Sul state (UFMS) visited Matemateca’s exhibition at IME-USP. The estimated public was 20 people
